Today's lesson we touched on Lecture 6 to 8 on how to evaluate a website using different criteria. Next, we applied this into the practical worksheet which we have to evaluate on the website http://www.talkingcock.com/. It's quite an interesting website, which i believed most Singaporeans will like it. It aims to provide people with stories and features where it indulges more in humor and fiction instead of rumors. It is set up as a forum for friends to share jokes with one another. After entering the site, there is an icon "About Us" which allows the user to know who and why do this people set up this website. The website covers on local news, international news, politics, business, etc. the breadth of the coverage is quite huge and the dept is quite average as several articles are written in short descriptions...... almost 2000-2800 viewing each of the stories written. Quite popular rite?
The information on the website is not factual as most of the stories are fiction, as it allows the audience to comment on the stories. At the homepage, the editor-in-chief has stated clearly to the public that they are making up stuff; they are not a political site, etc. The information is all on the people’s free expression and opinions. There isn’t any reference for citing. There will be a story or two updated everyday, which shows how updated the forum is.
The speed of access is quite average, and the articles are accessible. The language of the source is in English, more of Singapore way of talking. There isn’t any restriction to access through. No registration is needed. It is a free forum. But if u sign up, it allows u to post comment, etc. The homepage is attractive as it is in red and black. It presented all the latest stories at the top and the topic category. It is quite inviting. It is easy to use and user-friendly.
As compared to other website, this is different and how the language is presented. Its in singlish which is most understood by most Singaporean. I believe this website will be sustainable as it will be greatly supported by many readers... I choose the role of a Singaporean, and I will find the website quite interesting and humorous. As to me, I can accept the jokes and opinion based on Singapore issue. The forum creates a lively side of everyday life of Singapore. Basically, I like this website=)
